Ultrafiltration Systems

What is ultrafiltration?

Ultrafiltration (UF) is a type of water filtration that removes particulates and solids on a microscopic level. Ultrafiltration has a very high effectiveness in removing bacteria and other contaminants like protozoa, cysts, viruses, algae, dirt, sediment, mold, silt, colloidal silica, clay, iron, sand, lead particulate, and more. Ultrafiltration is ideal for drinking water or whole house water treatment, including the filtering well water or municipal water.

How does an ultrafiltration membrane work?

A UF membrane acts like a barrier using slight pressure to separate particles from the water. As a result, ultrafiltration filters out solids and particles as small as 0.02 micron such as sediment, bacteria, cysts, protozoa, and viruses.

Benefits of ultrafiltration

  • High effectiveness in removing contaminants – 0.02 micron filtration
  • Operates smoothly under low pressure – no need for electricity or a pump
  • Produces no waste water
  • Preserves healthful minerals in drinking water

Benefits of Premiere ultrafiltration systems: our flushable UF membranes have a filter life of up to 5 years!

We carry the latest and greatest in ultrafiltration technology: a flushable UF membrane. Our ultrafiltration systems use innovative technology which lets you easily clean (flush) the UF membrane whenever it gets full of contaminants.

It’s easy to flush our membranes – simply turn a valve on the system to flush the contaminants down the drain. You can tell when it’s time to flush the membrane because there will be a noticeable drop in water pressure.

Don’t keep buying expensive replacement filters or membranes you can’t flush.

Multistage UF Systems

A pre- or post filter can complement a UF membrane for additional filtration capabilities.

  • Carbon block filters target organic compounds like lead, chlorine, chloramine, heavy metals, VOCs, and chemicals that ultrafiltration does not remove on its own. (Our PS-2000C or PS-2000PB are whole house UF systems with a carbon block filter; PS-PURUF or PS-PH200 are under sink UF drinking water systems with carbon block filters).
  • Sediment filters are a great if your water has a lot of sediment, dirt, or other suspended particles. Yes, ultrafiltration does remove these particles, but a sediment pre-filter stops these particles from prematurely clogging up the UF membrane and/or shortening the membrane life-span. (PS-2000S is a whole house UF system with a sediment pre-filter).
  • An alkaline post filter raises the pH to 8.5 – 10, increases the negative oxidation reduction potential, and adds organic and natural calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium ions. (See PS-PH200 which is an alkaline + UF system).
  • Scale inhibitor prevents limescale and stops corrosion. (Available in our PS-2000C whole house UF system).
